Steppin' things uP

I am back! I know it is a few days later than I thought, but I DID do things the next day; I was not able to take the time to write it down at that time though. L Since I have a tendency to let certain things marinate in my thoughts longer than necessary I created this post to help keep me motivated and accountable; even if it is just to cyberspace and my one viewer J.
A few days ago (seriously, it was the day after I began this blog...Thursday and today is Sunday so it wasn't long ago), I decided that the best way to track exercise was to track my walking, even around the house. To aid in this endeavor, I found my pedometer (purchased 6+ months ago, still NEW and UNUSED in its box) and clipped it on. How do you determine how far you walk? Well, it required a bit of research and math on my part but I found out for anyone that would like to know. You first determine your height in inches, determine your stride in inches (height x .413 [female] or .415 [male] = stride in inches), and then take 63,360 (inches in a mile)/stride = steps per mile. I am 5’6” which is 66 inches tall – 66 inches x .413 = 27 inch stride, 63,360/27=2347 steps per mile.

Take the math one-step (pun intendedJ) further by dividing your steps for the day by your steps per mile to determine how many miles you walked (15550/2347=6.6 miles). On this particular day, the little guy was at daycare, allowing me to take a fast and hilly walk; by the end of the day, I managed to track over 15,550 steps, according to the math that made for a 6.6 mile day! The next day I strapped that lovely pedometer on and tracked 12,828 steps, without a purposeful walk, logging a little under 5.5 miles. DEFINITELY liking this pedometer thing, it helps a procrastinator like me to feel very accomplished with little thought through effort; SCORE! Of course wearing the pedometer did make me conscious of my movements and brought out a bit of competition with myself in the sense that I wanted to see how far I could walk in a day. A procrastinator is NOT necessarily lazy; we merely just do not wish to do it RIGHT NOW. J

"I can't think about that right now...I'll think about it tomorrow!" (Fleming, 1939)

My name is Wendi and I am the biggest procrastinator.   Exercise, dieting, laundry, deep cleaning housework, homework (when I was completing my degrees), weeding…anything labor intensive or that will require a sweat I avoid like the plague.  J  If I could lose the weight, tone my body, and do the chores just by thinking about it I would be the SEXIEST and MOST productive individual on the planet!  True Story.

This blog is not going to be explicitly about exercise and diet; it will be about all things procrastinating worthy.  If you have ideas and suggestions as to how I might beat the trap known as procrastination, PLEASE share!  Tips, tricks, anything helpful, funny, and/or motivating is OK in my book so SHARE.

Due to my intense love of procrastination and intellectual knowledge that it will not get me anywhere, I have decided to create this blog to help hold myself accountable through you, my followers.  The plan is to create posts for discussion and accountability; the sheer anonymity of my viewers will enable me to remain focused on the end result, or at least that is my hope. J I am not willing to put a true time limit on anything (a procrastinating technique that I am NOT willing to relinquish at this moment) but I am willing to post daily/weekly what my goals/plans are and then keep everyone posted as to what I truly did.  If I have an audience that holds me accountable to the things I plan to do then I will ensure that I do them.  I know that I will follow through because I know ME.  No matter how much I procrastinate, I abhor someone telling me one thing will happen and then it does not happen.  I truly believe in the Golden Rule (do unto others, as we would have done unto ourselves), therefore, I do my best to follow through on things that I say will happen.

Let’s get Started...tomorrow (and hope the next post isn’t half a year from now)! J
